  • Sunshine cracks the brow
    Burrows into my sedimentary frown
    And, with an elevating pressure
Forces up the corners of my lips
    Into a smile.

    And then...
    Silent summer spores attack!

    A viscous glue clogs,
    Spits and fizzes
    At the lids,
    Spawns illusory embryos
    Itchy spiders bursting
    At corneal edges.
    In their millions they dance
    In gelatinous clamour.

    Burrowing down,
    The havoc breeds,
    Fleshy floodgates dissolve
    Phlegmatic torrents break the dam
    Rush forth in unfathomable dimensions
    Pour and
    Drizzle and
    Spread and

One by one the battalions fall.
    Chlorphenamine maleate,
Lost to the might of mucus.

Then brave Sir Cetirizine Hydrochloride takes a stand.
‘Thou Shalt Not Pass!’ he cries.
    Embeds the staff of resolvitude
    To cure my ailing channels
    And clears my rusted peepers,
To let me see the light.

Thank God for 21st Century Medicine.
