  • She looked me straight in the eyes and asked me if I worked. What she meant to say was "Are you making money". People never ask that question. I squeezed my fork hard and said "No, I don't have a job". What I meant to say was "Shut up, you stupid woman".
    Now, I'm looking out at our land as the sun sets and a storm rolls in. All I can think about is what she said to me. I have decided not to let it ruin the view. I will go back to watering the garden. These are the 30 minutes I have to myself. I'd better not waste them.
