  • A land hurricane they called it. Or a Derecho. Winds up to 80MPH. Mostly unexpected here in the DC area, except what else can we expect after such a hot and humid day?

We fared okay. Especially compared to others. There is an uprooted tree down the way blocking cars in either direction. Our neighbor, around the corner and down the street, had a tree come down in her family room. Our house is fine. No power, but fine.

We got to work cleaning up the yard early Saturday morning. We called our three daughters outside to help pick up sticks. They whined. And complained. And whined some more.

I can't blame them. My first lucid thought of the day was how/where I'd get my coffee. But I do blame them. They're soft. What if this was a nuclear holocaust? What if they lived in a 3rd world country?

24 hours later, I took them to the yoga studio with me. There is A/C there. I charged my iPhone. They watched TV on their iPad. A little later, my iPhone rings. It's them calling from the back office to tell me they're hungry.

They're too soft. I blame myself.
