  • Lesson of the week: NEVER remove the lid off of a cooking pressure cooker. Never remove it with your bare hands. Not even if you think the lid isn't on all the way. It is.


    Lesson of 2009: Don't try and "simulate a crockpot" if you don't own one. And if you do take a saucepan and add four times the water as usual for your rice and leave the thing cooking on the lowest setting possible- DO NOT LEAVE for work. You will not have porridge all ready for you when you get home.

    I had an apartment that smelled like roasted street dog for four days. Luckily someone had broken in and turned my stove off. It took me a full week of baking soda soaks for the pan to crack off the majority of the black crust.

    Worst of all- far worst was the intense feeling of guilt that I had. I could have killed twenty people and their animals. All for a little rice porridge! For an idea I didn't think would even work right to begin with.
