  • Mother Hyena: When I give birth, it’s to many offspring, but you can only have one.
    Mother Lion: Yes…but it’s a lion.

I have spent entirely too much time of my life waiting. For the right job, the right woman, the right moment and so on and so forth. As a result I have grown older and if no necessarily wiser. But I am done with waiting now. I’m ready to give birth to something and I want it to be a lion.

I want to place a concept before you: AURA (Artists Unite, Revolution Accelerates). In this sound bite era, we in the arts have the ability to engage all five senses and connect with every possible combination of emotions. Can a politician do that? A focus group? The hands that hold the global megaphone will not relinquish it lightly. Where will you be when the fecal effluvium strikes the ventilation system? Pointing the way to a braver, newer, better world or preparing an outline for the next vampire movie? You will have to be quick, smart and adaptive for your voice to be heard, and it sorely needs to be heard, my brothers and sisters.

Your talent, your heart, your courage are needed much more than ever before. Think about how the arts can create the world you seek, and, if the spirit moves you, sprout from this story.

I want to devote myself to putting this plan into action. I’ve said about all I have to say on Cowbird, at least for the time being. I will be keeping an eager eye open for your remedies for this demented world and your celebrations of the human spirit. Meanwhile, in the words of one of our beloved Cowbirders, Coyote Prime, “Be good to each other, We’re all we've got.”
