  • My six-year-old daughter has a playing date at the house of a classmate. She looks forward to it since her friend has a lot of pets and we only have Ariel the goldfish.

When I come to pick her up, her enthousiasm has diminished. “What happened”, I ask. The father of the classmate tells me that one of the fish in their richly filled aquarium started to swim on it’s side and that he therefore has flushed it down the toilet.

My daughter witnessed this scene and had called out in shock: “My mother would never do such a thing.”

“Really?”, the father had replied. “What would you mother do?”

    “Call the vet, of course.”
