  • What advantages have you gained in life, without making them happen,no effort on your part.
I had two distinct disadvantages when I went to school, one I was a redhead and secondly I was left handed.
Being a redhead meant she were teased, called abuse nowadays, mercilessly, you were called anything nice from carrot top to "oih you with the bleeding brain".Nowadays there appear to be more reds around, wish there was then,we were treated as though from another planet. Now I know why Mars is the red Planet.
Being left handed in my school was like belonging to the Devil, nobody normal is left handed.Pick up a tool, pen or pencil etc with the left hand and something nasty smashed on your knuckles. No good saying how do I write now,Sir or Miss, that got you another one.So you used your right hand.My left hand used to throb at times from the treatment.
I don't suppose ,for one moment anyone realised the favour they were doing me at the time, but ,I can do near enough everything with either hand.Write or use tools with either hand, but ,of course even now the thought of those heavy ebony rulers did their work and automatically use the right hand.
I could never understand how the encouraged me to play cricket, and I wasn't bad, left handed.Must have been to someone's advantage I think.
Never really thought about but people do ask on occasion.I started Rifle shooting and automatically used my right shoulder until the guy teaching us looked at my shooting ans said "For gods sake man you are left handed, change now",
We don't think about these things, but those early disadvantages have certainly helped.I even play Bowls with eiother hand...great.
