  • This plaque is proof that history is told by the conquerors. How does the description of "hostile indian" apply when a culture, a people and their homeland are threatened with death or imprisonment by invaders? Lakota are a friendly people and not the cruel warriors portrayed in historical tomes or Hollywood. War begets war but i would say from a Lakota viewpoint this was about ethnic cleansing. Some day i suppose the wording on this will change and we can expect more white washing of the fact.
Here on the PIne Ridge Reservation we commemorate our history with a tribal holiday.
