  • I was taken. Any girl, every girl is easily taken by a man with an accent.
    His was wonderfully south african.
With the rare occurance of half an hour to spare I nipped into an italian cafe.
There he was, gleaming eyes, smooth voice, even smoother americano which he presented to me.
    Free of charge.
    I was taken.
The cafe was empty so his attention was on me,
Italy and art, The Beegees, siblings, a joke marriage proposal
and soon the half an hour ticked along to a hour.

I went the gym and after my workout I had recieved a text.
No gold star for guessing from who.
I was impressed at the quick move. Living in the moment.
    I was optimistic.

Several days and many, many text messages passed.
But then it went down a familiar route.
    Here is an extract;

MWA (man with accent): The only thing is im not sure im looking for a relationship at the mo...
but I am looking for some fun and I don't know if your looking for that kinda thing? ;) Xxx

Kat: I don't really know what I'm looking for but something with the possibilty of turning into a relationship would be good...maybe take a chance Xxx

MWA: Well Im moving to London in September, who knows what could happen then....Its a bit dangerous getting attached if you know what i mean.

    I chose not to reply.

    3 seconds later,

MWA: im up for sex though

When I first went to uni I was placed in halls with very promiscuous people. One girl was known as "Juliet" because a different Romeo would climb in and out her bedroom window each night to avoid the walk of shame. I saw girls out clubbing, paraletic, H&M skirts riding up their legs, all tanned and hair-sprayed, all vying for the attention of the guys. Of any guy.
    This is not me.
Why does being respectful, dignified and demure
make you stand out as being a frigid middle-aged housewife?
I don't want to be rolling around the dustbins with Wayne.
Its so hard having a 1940s outlook in the 21st century.

A few nights ago there was a documentary on BBC3 called "Single vs Settled". It was supposed to show a wide selection of different ways to be single or settled. The "settled" section was brimming with lots of lovely, sickeningly happy, married couples with a few tiny tots and yet, for the "discovering the true singles of Britain" section (yes all of Britain) the examples were

a woman, 20, boasting that she'd slept with 177 men and spends her nights on the pull,
and a grungy guy in a beanie hat whose aim is to shag a bird from every country.
Why does that sum up the majority?
There is a difference between lusting over someone at the gym
    and being a brazen slapper.
My Grandmother will be turning in her grave.
