  • Right after Breakfast my oldest son, his wife and my granddaughter come. They are so very VERY happy: they are finally pregnant again! It has been years with operations, hormone treatments and losing a baby during the first weeks of pregnancy. Finally they had given up and now this surprise! We dance and hug and share their happiness.

A few hours later I sit with a book on the sofa in the living - room. The door opens, my son and his wife enter. They look so pale. Each of them falls in one of my arms and they cry and sob and cannot stop lamenting: she has started bleeding and has just lost the baby - I hold the two trembling bodies and cry with them.

My middle son calls and tells me that his dog has just eaten the cat. I hear my two grandsons crying in the background.

Outside the hummingbirds are sucking out of the agapanthas what they can, crows and blue jays yell and scream. I discover a squirrel lost in the sun - room. We all go to help it find its way out into the garden.
