  • I heard this expression only recently, not realising it was a common one. It made a lot of sense.

You can worry all you like about how an event will turn out, what the weather will be like, whether your business is good enough; whether YOU are good enough.

    It is what it is.

If it rains on your wedding day, it rains. It doesn't prevent you getting married and it doesn't change how special that moment is. You can't control the weather, or how well an event turns out. It is what it is.

Some might argue that you can change things; put in more effort, more marketing. A business is what you make it, after all. But looking at life in general; accepting your circumstances, your way of life and your achievements... Accept them for what they are...

Because it is what it is.

Defeatist? No. It's not giving up. It's not dismissing experience. It's not assuming you shouldn't aim higher.

The way I see it? You can only move on when you stop analysing your life and comparing it to others'. Your life is what it is. No matter how you got to where you are now, it's happened. It was what it was.

Life in the here and now: It is what it is.

    Embrace it.
