  • At the Sacre Couer, her bridal dress, swelled around her like a cream souffle. Her tiara sparkled in the Parisian sunlight and her tennis shoes peaked out briefly before hiding again in the ripples of her dress. The boy in his tux and neatly combed hair, took her hands in his and looked towards the setting sun. Behind them, sitting silently on a tripod, a camera shuttered a few times.

The girl got up, gathering her dress around her as she walked to the camera. She checked the images, re-set the camera and shifted the tripod slightly to the left. She ran quickly and sat next to the boy, gave her hands in his and focused on a faraway spot in the distance, turning her head in seductive angles as the camera continued to flash and shutter.

I saw them again the next day. This time, in front of the Notre Dame. A majestic spot for photographs. The girl wore a different bridal gown. The boy towed behind her, his eyes on the ground. She directed the camera and the angles. And just like the day before, sprinted to the designated spot, put her hands in the boy's hands and looked intently in his eyes, willing herself to love him for that nano-second. So forcefully, it was almost real.

She checked the images. Took some cash out. Paid him and trotted away with her camera.

He stood there, wilted Euro notes in his hands, watching her leave.
