  • I got a message from my father on Father’s Day that said he heard about my stories on Cowbird from a friend. He told me he read them all and enjoyed my writing.

It’s funny how I never envisioned anyone I know ever reading these stories…unless it was my children and grandchildren long after I was dead. After all, that’s why I started writing them. To leave a record for them to read at their leisure about who I was. You know to get a flavor of what my life was like.

Anyway, it was a great father’s day present to me from my own father. I thought about some of the things I have written and rather than be embarrassed by them, I got a perverse kick out of baring my soul. Nowhere to go but up from there!

I have been enjoying Rain’s stories. Alternating between laughter and sorrow. And being amazed at his resiliency and acceptance of life’s “dark ride”. Man, keep writing as long as you can. You have a stream of consciousness that is reminiscent of Faulkner. Don’t let anyone fool you into believing you need lessons in writing. Taint so.

So, on this Father’s Day, I was taken to lunch by my youngest son’s family. We went to a small “hole in the wall” Mexican restaurant. It was fabulous. The enchiladas’ were to die for. And I had a mango margarita (known as a mangorita) that hit the spot. All in all, a marvelous afternoon.
