  • "Dogs do not have souls, therefore dogs do not go to Heaven," said my religious education teacher when I was 8 years old. For years I questioned whether this was true, because it just didn't seem accurate to me as someone who had a dog.

    Twenty one years later, my puppy, who can't speak to me using the same language and communication as my CCD teacher, has proven to me through all of her looks, licks, nudges, ball-chasing, barking, dreaming, and companionship that dogs have souls.

    Yet, I still wonder about souls. Sadly, though, it is not dogs I worry about, but humans.
