  • I had submitted one of my poems on line in a poetry competition and forgotten all about it, till I received an invitation to the 10th International Poetry Convention to be held in Washington USA .The year was 2000 and the month was August.
Unbelievable it seemed at the time and raised many questions. Will we get a visa? How will our travel program be arranged? How much money do we need.USA is another continent...but when one deserves an award and a journey is ordained then Nature makes it easy and affordable.

A historic journey made across two continents and the Atlantic Ocean with my daughters, to receive an award became a lifetime experience, for then events took a turn and 9/11 happened.

To USA by Saudi Arabian Airlines, a 16 hour flight from Islamabad to Washington. Our smooth landing on the great continent was on New York airport but the stay was brief.Soon the plane took off and headed towards Washington.Flying low the beautiful Earth was clearly visible through the window, so were the houses and roads. It was like a dream.
Washington Airport was clean, in fact spic and span, polished and shining and had a faint sweet scent. It was a happy landing.
Our connecting flight to Cleveland was from Baltimore so we hired a taxi and soon were on our way.
Baltimore The Beautiful. We had an hour to spare before the flightso the first thing was 'snacks' a small wonderful tea shop attracted our attention. The pastry and cupcake was simply delicious. A book stall, amazingly colourful, thoroughly enjoyable, and a group of school kids who were doing a project were just a few of the creative colourful aspects of the peaceful environment. 'Aviation History Displayed in a semi circle wall told us so much about Baltimore. I had read about the city in my American Studies Course and now I was stepping inside reality. Our journey became the one and only that we ever made.My two sisters are USA citizens, they have visited the home country but we were never able to go across the ocean again. I will share more with the wonderful friends colleagues writers and readers I have found here on COWBIRD Thank You Cowbird for giving me this wonderful opportunity and I wish to Thank Fiona Robyn my WYWH dear friend for giving me the clue.
