  • I once had a short contract with the AEA,an august body of scientists.Everywhere you went,everything you had to did...there were rules.In the main these were safety rules,for you own and everyone else's safety but then there were a lot of unnecessary rules.
    I was sitting having a cup of coffee,it was allowed,with a very intelligent scientific gentleman,who shall remain nameless.We were talking about some pettifogging rules,he turned to me and said (I think he was quoting someone else) "Rules are made for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of idiots"
    He qualified this by saying some rules we need others are just of a nuisance value
