  • Boi is my pack mate. By mutual agreement, I'm the alpha, but that' s mostly on account of my opposable thumbs and the advantage that gives me in opening food containers. We both have our responsibilities within the pack. Mine are food, shelter, and gainful employment. Boi's job is to protect the garden from the advance of squirrels.
    This morning we went out to patrol the backyard and Boi, ever on the alert, spotted a bushy tail sticking straight up out of the urn on the left. He looked to me for the "word," which I gave. Like a shot he was off. The squirrel, suddenly aware of Boi's enthusiastic approach, leapt from the urn to a nearby tree. It hung off the smooth bark for a moment and then pulled itself to the safety of the branches above.
    Amidst the bird call in the attached audio file you can hear the challenging chirrup of the rodent as Boi sits below, stationed strategically between the squirrel's objectives.
