  • Do you suppose? Does it hurt when butterflies lose parts of their wings?

I encountered these two Small Ones today on my forest walk. The orange one is a Pearl Crescent. And the brown one is a Buckeye.

They are about the same size...perhaps a little over an inch wide. Interesting that both have lost a portion of their lower right wings.

And the Buckeye! Well, it has lost part of the lower portion of both wings...half of its six 'eyes'!

    And they flew just fine.

There's a metaphor in here somewhere.... About fragility not being a barrier to mastery? Vulnerably and fully engaging in Life?

Finding them and photographing them is Grace. Silent. Still.
