  • Coming into the hospital, I see an elderly patient leaving with her family. They push her wheelchair towards the entrance. She has a black Amish cap on her head, and a gorgeous orange quilt across her knees.

    My heart reaches out to stroke that quilt with my eyes - the only sign of real comfort I have seen in this forlorn place.
