  • This is one of my earliest memories. I was about 5 years old. We were driving back home, from my grandparent in our little red car. My sister was sitting next to me in her little car seat. She was already asleep. We left quite late. It was a clear night and the star where shining over the dark polder landscape. I was looking outside and enjoying the lights that are so very far away. My mom saw that I wasn’t sleeping yet. So she sang me a lullaby she always sang before we went to sleep. "Hoger dan de blauwe luchten en de sterretje van goud woont een vader hemel die van alle kinderen houdt. Ook voor de zieke kinder zorgt hij en de tranen en de pijn." As I grew more tired her the song changed from words to sounds. Shashas sahas hsasha sashas. And I fell asleep with the universe as my blanket. One of my dearest memories; That small song and that big universe.
