  • It’s the first few days that are the hardest. Out of step and outside of time, jetlag exacerbates the sense of foreignness. Waking up at odd times from dreams in a language I don’t speak. Phones ring in imprecise cadences, police sirens wail unfamiliar danger, even birds sing unknown songs.


    They are still phones and police sirens and birds. So I focus on the bits that I do know until I can catch up on sleep.
