  • It was a cold week night, at the end of the winter season. The bar was crowded that night, just like usual. And I was looking for something I knew I wouldn't find. But I was there regardless, sipping my beer and looking for any sign of a connection. Any sign that I was worth something.

A few beers down, I felt nature beckon me to the porcelain piss catcher. To piss, not to puke mind you.

As I came out the bathroom door, she stood there next to her friend. A buddy I was with knew "her" and she was busy laughing, appearing to be the life of the party. Her friend, much quieter, was also attractive, but younger - at least young enough for me to know the difference between cradle robber and potential boyfriend. So instead I focused my attention back on her. She called for my attention quite literally.

A few weeks later, she began visiting the same bar, only this time to see both of us. She sat at our table as we stole a few glances at each other. A connection was forming. But when "love" starts out in a sportsbar you should be prepared for the game.

    Unfortunately, I was not prepared.
