Memorial Day happens the last Monday in May
Veterans from all the wars are honoured
    just like Remembrance Day.

    Remembering the fallen.
Eleventh hour on the eleventh day
    November of 1918
    end of the Great War
    to end all wars.

For 100 miles of Belgian/French mud
    17* million died.
Stricken by the devastation the poet-doctor
saw in the poppies hope for the fallen:
in the crimson mud of human madness
John McCrae chose this flower to honour the dead.

    In Canada we wear poppies
    recite In Flanders Fields
    solemnly intone Lest We Forget.

    Seven years now in Afghanistan
    Canadians die among poppies again
in the bloody saga of war.

    Lest we forget
all the young boys who never come home.
    Lest we forget
soldiers who survive get killed somehow
    somewhere inside.

Why is it our men will war a way to peace
on the backs of boys in the millions?

    Lest we forget
we manufacture war like we do weapons

    Lest we forget
    we are all one another

    * The total number of deaths includes about 10 million military personnel and about 7 million civilians. The Entente Powers (also known as the Allies) lost about 6.0 million soldiers while the Central Powers lost about 4.0 million. (wikipedia)
