  • I knew I had to post a story on the final day of Cowbird. I had a few ideas, including music and pictures and themes. But then today everything fell together.

The above picture of my son Eli was the only story I wrote that made "cowbird story of the day." It is my most loved story in my collection, with 130 loves. It was also one of my earliest stories. The three words on his photo are the ones he chose to describe himself when the photographer asked him.

Well today was Eli's last IEP in High School as he is a Senior. An IEP is an Individual Education Plan (something our current Secretary of Education had never heard of ... - wow, right?)

It is part of special education law that affords him certain rights and protections (that the current admin would like to ditch).

My main fear for Eli was that he wouldn't graduate or would be held back. He has learning differences. He is smart, but neuro-logically processes information differently. I hear Einstein had the same problem and he was kicked out of school!

At his IEP today his teachers gave glowing reports and recommendations for Eli. Everyone loves him.
    He is right on track
    for graduation.
    He has found his voice
    and advocates for himself.
But probably the thing I heard that made me the proudest,
is that he has empathy for others. And in this day and age ...
that is probably one of the best skills a person could have.
    A gift really.

    So anyway,
    when I thought of
    my final Cowbird story,
I realized it had to he the one
    my readers had loved best.
It is also my favorite story, too.

Below is one of his graduation pictures that we did last summer in anticipation of the upcoming graduation in May.

    Cheers all.
    It has been fun.
    Thanks for reading
    and loving
    and I have enjoyed
and loved reading all of you.

    Much love-Rose
    (Aka Cowgirl Rose)
