  • Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of Chiapas, is a huge, fast growing, modern city, in my eyes: ugly as hell. I came here 40 years ago and whenever we enter de Central Avenue I spotted ONE beautiful house and always wondered what housa that was, why there were no more buildings like this one, how beautiful the historic center of Tuxtla could be. A few years sgo this building was declared the Museum Of Town. Yesterday one of the ladies to win the Prize is a woman rescuing culture and among it: this building. She has renovated it and it is truly a gem. Inside cultural activities are organized, a choir was singing, in another room people were painting. As I am German I am always punctual and as we are in Mexico, everybody else comes late and so we could appreciate the beauty of the room where the prize was given and received.

Yes: after 40 years of wondering, I finally stepped INSIDE this building and was awestruck by its harmony and beauty and it made the reception so much more special to me!
