  • "Look up"

"WOWWWWW, Dad, it's... so Biggggg and light" I almost fell backwards, but dad's strong hand was instantly there, reaching out holding my pajama shirt.

He laughed an inside laugh at his own timing, acting without looking and maybe saw the fun in letting me fall, but I was glad he saved me. The grass was wet and cold.

This is what WONDER must have always been. Instinct, Intuition. Signs of how it reveals itself.

"I'm sure that's exactly what god said when he was playing around with Nuclear star stuff, he shouldn't have been let anywhere near too!"

I took my heaven eyes off , a bit startled to hear Dad telling God what he should be about.

"Yeah, that's what the priests said to us the other day, dad!"

"What? What did he say?" he asked, taking his eyes away from the brand new Sears super duper long range Millenium Telescope and although it was pitch black, I saw matches light in the form his interest.

"I had already forgotten what I had said, what with all the AWE I was watching out there?
It was the Milky Way and it sure looked like it needed some Hershey Chocolate syrup.
Wow... it was the Brightest, Whitest thing I'd ever seen.
My thoughts went to the house, to the refrigerator, to trying to calculate how much milk Mom would miss, if I had a little treat, being part of the Milky way and all."

    What did he say?

I took my eyes off of the god stuff up above and looked at him thru the dark between us

    What dad? Who?

The priest, you said HE said the same thing..

    "I did?"

    "Said what , dad?"

This was getting off topic for him and he's trying to do a investigative interrogation with a five year old he just woke up at 2 a.m. , carrying him outside without footies, a robe, hat, so he could teach his son how to see the stars.. More, like how to catch a cold, more like it..

"Never Mind".... he whispered again.. I was noticing he did That, A lot, With me.

I wasn't "Minding" any thing except that i had to take a pee and maybe get a blankey. It was chilly.
but, dad went on and on about the stars while he looked through the telescope, telling me about the stars. Their history , names, places, and adventures they all had as a family. According to him, they were gods before god..

Now that was something New. I hadn't thought of... A bunch of lights, each a god. Not like the one hanging in the kitchen in the dark, getting dust on himself nor getting up to fix himself something to eat.. He was so skinny. Bleeding and NOT twinkling.

I had to pee, so being who I was , I edged off towards the bushes and let His voice trail away. He would just keep talking there, while I turned into a flannel Popsicle stick, anyway.

"ahhhhhhhhhh, I sighed into the night as I watered the hedges. Dad was out there in the dark... talking as if I was still right there, listening to him go on and on. Peeing was the immediate thing here. Now, Then.

"You see? Right over there, That's Regular I heard him say.. (Regulus, is what he said, I just heard it funny, that a god would be called 'Regular'.

He kept talking about who ''he'' was and what ''he'' had gotten up to while he was a god. Alpha Lionus is a star cluster, 79 light years from us, was what he was pointing to. I found that out later, as there was always going to be a Test on this material...

He talked a lot about Regular, Like we were neighbors, so I walked away, ( he knew I didn't like the neighbors), as I was not going to SEEEEE anything through the telescope, as that was NOT on his, agenda. If it was, he would have had a milk box out there, so I could at least get up to the thing he was looking at, through, the "Whole of Time."

I walked away to the front of the house, taking the dogs blanket from him as I went by.. Spark looked up growling a bit startled , but just yawned the next moment, probably thinking little of why this little brat woke him up..
It was darker there and I Could see more over on that side of the house

I could hear him telling me stuff, now as an muffled bird would be.

Dad was RIGHT though... It was Stunning.
DAD, Sometimes Brilliant like the stars and well... other times .. a little forgetful, in the Shine Dept.

Little would I know though, that having a DAD-god take me out to see the stars that night, would tun out to be Why I loved the stars, and learned how to navigate by them, on four oceans I have traveled on.

It was Spark, I ended up talking to that night... about all those beautiful lights and afterward, getting tired , He didn't mind that I crawled into his house, snuggled up with him for the rest of the night.
