    Before you pull the trigger
    Before you punch the code
    Before you dump the poison
    Into the watershed

    Before you shut the gates
    Before you slam the doors
    Before you turn your backs
Upon the hungry and the poor
You should take a little time to look me in the eyes
    and know my heart well

    I am every woman
    I am every man
I am every child who loves to play in sand
Whose soul is, was and will be etched in eternity

I am the rich, the middle class, the poor
I am the brave, the meek, the fearless and the feared, the very fear itself
I am the enlightened, the repressed, the jailer and the jailed
I am the guilty, the innocent, the victim and the brute

I am the light, the dark, the love, the hate
I am you and you are me, we are one and will always be
Formed from the same star’s dust
That spilled upon the Earth so very long ago

I am the poison and the antidote
I am the bullet and the gun
    The surgeon, saint and sinner
I am the crucified and reborn
We are life and death, together we are sworn

As you condemn those to death, we are shadows in your eyes
    Through poison, war, and hatred,
Through that insatiable quest for power
And your need to be THE ONE
So too do you condemn me (and I am you)

So LOOK me in the eyes a moment just before
    You spill the deadly poison
    You punch the secret code
    You pull your golden trigger
To lighten your black and ugly load

Look me in the eyes and know my heart well
As it spills my stardust blood
on your feet upon the floor.

Take the stains that it leaves you
Through the life you will tread
    And leave its spatters freely
To remind you of the dead
