  • I was born in Buenos Aires. Today Argentina celebrates the May Revolution, which ultimately led, six years later, to its declaration of independence. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_Revolution

When I was little, we wore escarapelas to school, had an "acto" and celebrated by waving the blue and white flags. Kids still do that there, I think, I hope.

I am proud to have been born there, where men and women had the courage to fight the establishment and to believe in freedom. It is said that the Revolución de Mayo sparked the rest of the Spanish American independence wars.

Today, in Boulder, USA, where I have lived most of my life,. I consider myself an American.

Yet, in the early morning light of the mountains, I sit and write, drinking my mate and shedding a few tears for my homeland. May this spirit of independence be reborn in all the hearts of all the people in Argentina.
