  • Very appropriately politicians are often accused of promising “Jam yesterday, jam tomorrow, but never jam today.” I discovered only yesterday that this little gem comes from Lewis Carol. Interestingly, in Latin THEN is IAM.
    The expression tells us that THEN can be YESTERDAY, it can be TOMORROW, but never now. “I was in Manchester yesterday and saw I, Daniel Blake THEN”.Or, “I will be in Paris next week, and will visit the Louvres THEN."
