  • This morning
    we had a three
    or four-way
    conversation.
    Okay...
maybe there were five or six of us...
    or a baker's dozen.
    I dunno.
    I didn’t do
    an official
    roll call.

    It started
    sipping up
    ideas
    over coffee,
    kept right on
    socking-it-to-me steady
    in the dressing room,
    proffered
    deep and
    useless musings
    over dishes in
    the sink
    and paused to
    question dear sweet sanity
    right on out the
    door.

    Dark angels,
    enlightened demons,
    real imaginary friends,
    ghosts,
    zombies,
    winged and horned
    other-worldly gods
    and three
    or four
    of my most
    charming
    personalities
    all showed up
    for the party.

    It got pretty heated
    somewhere
    near
    20th and Fitzwater.

    By the time
    I got to work
    we were all
    pretty well
    spent.

    Perhaps
    next time
    we meet,
    we’ll have
    the forethought
    for one of us
    to take minutes.

    But then,
    next time,
    we might just have
a hop, skip, Coke and a
    smile.
