  • I am so heartbroken, as I hope everyone is. I am heartbroken that today we still judge men and women by the color of their skin and not by the content of their character.

That mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters have to die a death born of hate.

That too many tears are shed that don’t need to be shed.

That the “give me your tired and your poor” is followed by “depending where they come from and what they look like”

That the soul of the USA, made up only of immigrants, people seeking refuge and rest from hunger, and strife and war and persecution, is being soiled by strife and hunger and persecution of another kind.

That hate and not love seem to be the basis for everything.

I am tired. I am heartbroken. But I will not give up.

Today I will continue to love. I will continue to love my neighbor as myself. I will continue to be a symbol of what I think is this wonderful country and ignore the videos, the hate and the feeling that it is all going wrong.

Because maybe this is the end and a beginning.

And if it is not, I will continue to love.
