    Then I was sorting out the debris in the shed. There'd been a flood when an outdoor pipe, running through the shed, burst following a severe frost.

    This book was in a box with craft materials, left undisturbed, now all ruined. But look! The book has become papier mache.

    I'm revising my thinking.

    A book on papier mache has become the thing that it describes...

    This really is the kind of thing that makes my day.

    Think about how this could relate to other beloved books. And stories. It raises both terrifying and delightful possibilities. Provided, and this seems to be crucial, that you leave your books undisturbed.
