  • Today, I took an empty bird cage to school to talk about “Freedom” and “independence”, with my 3rd graders (8 year olds). We had an engaging discussion on birds, cages, prisons, lack of freedom and what they think about putting animals and birds inside cages.

Finally, they wrote their answers for this question “What will I lose if I am put inside the cage?” on post it notes and we discussed everyone’s answers. Here are some of the answers. I am so happy to note their independent thinking and writing skills. From just writing the English alphabets a year ago, they are now thinking and writing on such interesting ideas in class.
