  • High and steep mountains on three sides and the North Atlantic Ocean on one side surround Siglufjörður.

    The first road to this isolated village over the mountain pass Siglufjarðarskarð (630 meters above sea level), was opened in 1946.

    It was replaced by a new road and tunnel in 1967 and since than better roads and new tunnels have vastly improved communications and infrastructure in this rugged area.
