    I'm leaving my little English house soon. I have to have everything packed up by the end of next week, eek.

    Before I go, I'm getting rid of things - giving them away, mostly. It's very satisfying. Things I no longer need, carefully selected recipients. This person will like this necklace. This one will like this scarf...

    Then there's other stuff - like the sea coal I picked up near Blackpool (appropriately). I've kept it for years, but last night I decided to burn it. I'd heard that sea coal burns with a blue flame, so I was rather excited and kept opening the stove door to check on progress. It took a long time to catch properly, and eventually I forgot about it.

    At bedtime, I opened the stove door again and beheld this! The most intense, gentian flame atop a volcano!
