  • A tarantula fell
    on my path blown
    from a tree,

    A Scorpion
    sped under my
    baby’s cot
    tail unfurling;

    I placed bowls of water
    on each cot leg.
    to protect my baby
    from its sting,

    A huge moth,
    as big as a bat,
    flew into my
    kitchen wafting
    its powder around.

    “We call them witches”
    Rosita said.

    I watched a spider
    eat one just like him.
    No it’s just shedding
    its skin.

    Termites mended the
    tunnel connecting
    their castles.

    A Hummingbird
    sipped nectar from
    my Bougainvillea.

    A cockroach
    went crunch
    under my foot.

    In England
    we just have
    worms and ants
    and go butterflying,
