She had a smile that lit up her face.
How can this be put this into words? It seems too big for that, the devastation.
She was left alone a lot, she shouldn't have been, it was dangerous.
I was a child struggling with feelings of shame and guilt due to her illness. Embarrassed of being different from other children, torn apart from watching her fall ......the expression of sadness, frustration and helplessness on her face as she tried to pull herself up.
There was a scar on her nose from falling....so difficult to look at, a reminder of her helplessness and mine. I felt something similar to survivors guilt, able to walk, run, jump, ride a bike, while she was stuck in a chair.
There were times It felt wrong to take up space....
