  • I used to think that my first love was my high school boyfriend, but now that I'm on the brink of marriage I realize that my true first love is my fiance, Seth. I feel this way because now that I have experienced the ultimate love, one where we are both confident enough in the strength of our relationship that we have agreed to commit ourselves to each other for the rest of our lives, I realize that your first love doesn't have to be the first time you experienced love but it can be the first time you experience this kind of unconditional love. The "first love" in a person's life is often very conditional. Most people would describe their first love as a high school sweetheart, very often some kind of young love that did not last. But I like the idea of thinking about your first love differently. Seth is my first unconditional love.

Seth and I met in November of 2010 at a bar; a mutual friend was guest bar tending and we had both been dragged by our friends to the happy hour. While I waited for the bar tender to get me a drink, Seth's best friend Anu accidentally spilled his drink on me. Being the ball buster I am I made him get me a drink and we started talking. Seth came over and joined in on the conversation and the flirting began. It wasn't until about a month later that we would have our first date and now, a year and a half later we are 6 weeks away from getting married.

The picture above is the way Seth proposed to me. We were in New Hope celebrating our anniversary and after dinner he asked me to go outside to look at the stars. He handed me his cell phone to use the star app and then told me to swipe to the right. This is the screen I saw. At first, I was confused and then when I turned to look at him he asked me to marry him, kneeling on one knee, holding a ring in the dark that I couldn't see. I said yes, as I'm sure you guessed, and my first response after "Of course, I'll marry you" was "How did you get this on your phone?". On June 30th we are getting married! I am marrying my first unconditional love!
