  • Over the years of my life I have not been that involved in my culture. As a child I’ve been more involved with my catholic religion more than I have with my Lakota culture. So this leaves me to two questions that, I can’t seem to answer: Am I more Catholic than am Lakota? Is it wrong for me question my culture? Maybe some people will tell me it’s wrong in the future, and maybe some will tell me I have the right. For now those two questions have to remain unanswered, until I can figure out who I truly am. Am I Catholic or am I Lakota?
As a child, I’ve been involved with my church. I went to bible school in the summers of my childhood; I even attended church on Sunday mornings. But as I was growing up I stopped attending church and stopped going to bible school in the summer. Am I Catholic?
As a child, I wasn’t involved with Pow-Wows, Sundance’s, Sweats, or anything that involves my Lakota culture. But as I was getting older I became more involved with my Lakota culture. I’ve attended Pow-wows and helped the elders in my tribe. I would help serve dinner at pow-wows. I reciecved the Lakota Leadership Award when I was in the 8th grade. Does these make me Lakota? Am I Lakota?
Time goes on and I have time to figure out what my culture is. Maybe for now I can be Catholic or I can be Lakota. Maybe neither.
