  • The old folks in my neighborhood like to pave their yards. Some immigrated from the Azores and don't like excessive maintenance. They live in Victorian houses clad in aluminum. I am not saying the neighborhood is devoid of aesthetic choices and I shouldn't generalize. But, I have personal experiences... one spring the city forester initiated a a street tree project. The following morning I saw an old man with a hand saw removing two newly planted trees in front of his house. He said he didn't like raking leaves.

    I have passed this wishing well for over a decade.

    I have thought of many wishes...

    Universal art education in America is one that comes to mind.
