  • Usually, I do not dwell on my aches and pains but yesterday was Fibromyalgia Awareness Day; so I guess I should recognize that I do wake up every day in pain and feel as if creeping stinging ants are all over me.

I have had this syndrome for thirty years and chose to use meditation, yoga exercises and breathing techniques to improve my
quality of life; instead of endlessly searching for the right medication.

I have found that following a vegan, non wheat diet also helps many of the digestive symptoms that accompany Fibromyalgia.

The weird thing is; I do not look ill, so if someone hands me their baby to hold whilst they are searching for their credit card (for example) I have to say, feeling very guilty, that I have a disability and cannot carry anything over eight pounds in weight/ three and a half kilos. If I do carry anything heavy I suffer acute pain and have to rest for three days.

Another strange thing is, perhaps due to my genes or my healthy diet, I look younger than I really am. This really phases other people. Sometimes they assume that I have had plastic surgery; which annoys me.

Now that I have bored everyone with this statement I will shut up about it for the rest of the year.

I try to spend each day with a positive attitude, giving thanks that I have a supportive family and have the time to take photos of the beauty around me and write poems, stories and finding out about all Cowbirds wonderful storytellers around the world.
