  • i dream of orange popsicles
    cream inside and childhood
    playgrounds with tetherballs
    bouncing grass skid marks
and the blood of bottle brush
    trees with scarlet needles
    back then the orange blossoms
    from the orchards the ravens
    were circling black wings
    spreading against a cobalt
blue sky a blizzard that opens
    into a supermarket the
    asphalt furnace of the
    parking lot riding a bicycle
around a cul de sac in
    a ranch house with avocado
    walls linoleum floors the radio
    bleating to an empty room
    where my grandmother snores
in her rocking chair as the
robin chirps in the willow tree
    weeping at night the skull
    of pale moons and dead
    stars stare tenderfoot
    i slide the glass door
    my grandmother still
    sleeps the crickets awaken.
