  • The Monkey Story was Ben's bedtime story for a very long time.

The original name of the novel in Chinese is 西游记 --xī yóu jì, Journey to the West.

I read him the stories in Chinese, and when he was big enough to read, he enjoyed reading the stories himself in English.

Our friend Bob bought Ben a set of Monkey Series as present, from the only Chinese bookstore in China Town, London. (34 books in a set, but one of them was out of stock, by FOREIGN LANGUAGES PRESS, BEIJING )

Ben loved the adventures, fightings, rescues and kidnap stories.

Ben disliked the weak monk, who gets kidnapped so easily.

Monkey tried to save the monk, but sometimes Monkey got the blame for simply being helpful.

    It was just not fair.

Ben knows all the details in every episode of the story. He remembers all the monsters' names.

But now, Ben has formed a view that 西游记 --xī yóu jì is too childish, and the stories have no plot. He laughs at the ridiculous fights. Ben still has no sympathy for the monk.

Ben says he prefers western adventure story, such as Alex Rider.

Of course, Ben is now 11 and 1/2 years old.
