  • A few summers ago I had the idea to start a little business on etsy. I made a bunch of tutus for babies and children. I also made tutu dresses. Most of which were inspired by Disney princesses. I priced them just so I could make a few dollars off of each one. I set up the business on etsy under the name A Slice of Tulle. I didn't sell many tutus or tutu dresses. But it was an interesting learning experience. I had to sign up for a pay pal account. I can't believe that I didn't have that before I opened the shop on etsy. It is easy to use and it is so convenient. I use it all the time now.

I did a lot of things wrong when I had the shop going. I didn't advertise them on my social media pages. I didn't really tell many people about it. I just thought that because it was on etsy people would find it and buy it. I was somewhat correct. I got a lot of people asking questions and I answered them in a reasonable time. I should have advertised it on my social media pages and told more people about it to spread the word. I believe I would have gotten more business that way. I just hate that I let my business somewhat fail. I started the business because I love making tutus. I made my first one my freshman year for marching band. That was what the piccolos would be wearing at gameday practice. It was so easy and I had a lot of fun making it. It started to become a hobby of mine. There are so many possibilities of what you can make them into. I just wish that I had been more successful with my business. There are many other shops on etsy that also sell tutus. So I understand that they probably got more orders since they were on there longer and had more experience than I did.
