  • When I think in absolutes, and sometimes I do, this is what I think of. Gertrude Stein's famous line. She's right, isn't she? A rose does not portray itself as a hummingbird. Pretend to be a snail or a cigarette butt squashed out on the sidewalk.

A rose is a rose is a rose.

Absolutes apply to people. So it is with you. There are many versions of you that you may try on for size. Try them all if you like. You will still be you. Or maybe you'd rather be someone else? Masks are plentiful - but I guarantee you that the eyes won't line up right and you'll stumble around. The nose will not function and make it impossible for you to breathe. You'll suffocate if you wear a mask long enough.

    So don't. Show your face.

Your face is your face is your face. Wear it.
