  • I spied you two about to step off the curb. A curious pair. And yet perhaps not so unlikely in this day and age. When white-haired ladies age with diminished grace. When working folks everywhere need a job, and the market shifts in the direction it does.

    You keep her memory for her, leaning in to remind the number of days -- eight, you say -- until some anticipated event will arrive. You keep her safe when she crosses the street. You keep her safe most all the time, I bet.

    I don’t know what will happen once the two of you get back home, but I'm sure there will be comfort there. And understanding. There’ll be service and employment and need. And, there will be sharing, I think. Real, live sharing.

    So large. So gentle. So caring. So unlikely. And yet. So. Likely.
