  • Places we know are linked. It can be by a multi-national chain of coffeeshops, or the way trees cascade leaves onto a river. Possibly the colour of bricks on a street corner.

For me one of the links between my home and my heart home is the White Rose, though they have different meanings. One is overarching, the other the flower that flourishes in the harshest soil. The White Rose is the flower of the county of my birth, white petals dancing around yellow stamen; the centre twin of the House of Tudor, the badge of the Crooked Back King the eye of the Sunne In Splendour. To me a badge of ruggedness, honesty, standing up against the elements

In my heart home the Weiße Rose (How I love the elegance of the letter ß) means resistance, a quiet intellectual resistance, ethics, morals. It involved high school children, university students and professors. It was a resistance of letters and words.
Of standing up against the elements.
Maybe the meaning of those petals are not so different after all.
