  • I feel like I need to begin something I don’t even want to think about. But the reality is, it might be upon us before we know it. I don’t live my life with my head in the sand, so I have to face this. But one thing is for certain – I don’t want to face it alone. So, I’m sharing with all of you. We’ve all been on this journey together, and it’s meant so much to me, I need to share what I’m feeling, now.

Cowbird, as we’ve known it, may be in its final days. Dave Lauer and Jonathan Harris are seriously considering making it “Read Only”. I suspect that means, the stories that are posted will remain, but there won’t be the ability to post any new stories. But, I’m not sure. Here’s the message I received from Dave in reply to my e-mailed concern that one of these *%$#^&!!**# Spammers had joined my audience.

    Hi, Pete
I'm doing my best to combat the spam issue, but there's only so much that can be done without a full-time developer working on the site, unfortunately. As much as we want Cowbird to continue on, it seems that we just don't have the resources, and Cowbird doesn't have the support/audience, that it would need. Jonathan and I have been discussing what should be done, and we are considering making Cowbird read-only. If you have other ideas or thoughts on the matter, we're open to listening. I feel bad about this, but at the moment don't see another way, and both he and I are so busy with other things.

    Thanks,
    Dave

I am, uncharacteristically, at a loss for words. Ever since all of this spamming began, whenever it was, I suspected this day would come, and that it wouldn’t be too long. These M-F-ing spammers have just screwed us and nearly destroyed a wonderful thing. Did I mention that I can’t stand them?

I will always have fond memories of the connections I’ve made with so many of my storytelling friends that I met through Cowbird. I hope that many of us can continue our connection through other means.

I will tell you this – wherever I walk, as I walk on and away from this once-proud Storyteller website known as Cowbird, I will carry each and every one of you in my heart. When I think of you, it will be with a smile, and a deepfelt sense of gratitude that we got to walk together these past few years.

Don’t worry – this isn’t my last story (I hope). I just don’t know when the lights will be turned off here, so I just wanted to make sure I said that, before it’s too late.

Thanks for letting me in to your lives, and thanks for being a part of mine.

    Ya’all rock.
