  • The Easter just gone, I really wanted to get involved in working with the professors at my university, but I was really apprehensive about approaching them, Honestly I don't know why, I had no reason to be. I suppose it was that they were 'Professors' and maybe they just wouldn't have the time, or they wouldn't be able to stop thinking long enough to talk to me.

But I managed to get over my apprehension and asked a prof who had been a lecturer for one of my maths classes. It turned out he was pretty awesome, it turned out that far from knowing he was superior, he was willing, no, happy for someone to ask to help do research, happy to have new ideas, or at least a person to bounce ideas off of.

The 2 weeks of lab stuff, which was what my discussion with the prof culminated in, was pretty much playing in a sandpit with balls taking pictures like this one.
I left after those 2 weeks having made a friend of the prof, having learnt a few lessons that will be useful in the future and having had 2 weeks of feeling like a kid.

I won't ever again feel scared or nervous about asking questions again. Although not all people will value my opinion, there are people who will be open to, and happy to be given new ideas, and i can at least hope that the latter outnumber the previous.
