  • I see this pattern as a mandala* of some beauty!

It is the plotting of the path of the Vela Pulsar as captured by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope during the time spanning from August 2008 to August 2010. It is the result of capturing the image of the pulsar while the telescope gyrated 1) to best survey the sky, and 2) to keep its solar panels pointed toward the sun.

"Born in the death explosion of a massive star within our Milky Way galaxy, the Vela Pulsar is a neutron star spinning 11 times a second, seen as the brightest persistent source in the gamma-ray sky."

    * Here's something I wrote about mandalas a couple of years ago...

Mandalas are designs of sacred geometry symbolizing The Universe as a Whole. They represent the Soul or Higher Self within us remembering Itself. Contemplating mandalas helps us heal our sense of spiritual fragmentation. It also assists us in manifesting creative energy, optimism, and the Light within.
